The seven-person jury said Heard "acted with malice" when she made several defamatory statements about Depp in a Washington Post article in 2018 in which Heard described being a victim of domestic violence.

Depp had previously sued Heard for $50 million over the allegations and Heard countersued for $100 million. Depp was successfully able to prove that he did not abuse Heard despite her allegations.

"From the very beginning, I have the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome," Depp said in a statement on his Facebook. "I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that."

The seven-person jury, which deliberated for nearly 12 hours over three days, ordered Heard to pay Depp $10 million in compensatory damages. Depp must pay Heard $2 million in damages as well.

The jury was supposed to deliver the verdict at 3 p.m. but it was pushed back because they did not fill out their compensatory damages report.
